“Send to death mercilessly and without compassion, men, women and children of Polish derivation and language. Only then will we gain the living space we need.” (Hitler, 1939)
Five million non Jewish people died during the Holocaust; that is nearly half of the eleven million people brutally murdered during the reign of the Third Reich. This play is not written to ignore any of the sufferers during this horrific time however we are telling the story about some of the people who are overlooked. The Gypsies, the homosexuals, the Christians etc. we are not ignoring the Jewish victims, but highlighting and remembering the others that suffered also.
To forget just one of these people would be a tragedy, to forget them all, unforgivable.
The Forgotten Millions by Kimberley Godsall and Sarah Love began it’s life as Kimberley’s A Level Drama exam piece and has evolved into the one act play it is today. When researching for a piece on the Holocaust Kimberley and four of her school friends discovered that almost half of the people who lost their lives so tragically were not Jewish at all. The play ran at the Barons Court Theatre in 2007 and was then published in 2010. Kimberley decided she wanted to direct this play in Tonbridge and bring it’s story to a new audience.
